What is the typical height of heavy-duty storage shelves
The height of heavy-duty storage shelves does not have a fixed standard value, and will be flexibly designed according to factors such as usage scenarios, storage space height, forklift operation height, etc. The common height range can be divided into the following categories:
1. Heavy duty shelves for regular warehouses
Suitable for general industrial plants and e-commerce logistics warehouses (warehouse net height of 8-12m), with a height of 5-10m and typically 3-5 floors. This height can fully utilize the storage space and adapt to the conventional operating height of electric forklifts and internal combustion forklifts (forklift lifting height is generally ≤ 8m), meeting the intensive storage needs of cardboard boxes and pallet goods.
2. Heavy duty shelves for high-level three-dimensional warehouses
Used for automated three-dimensional warehouses, combined with stacker crane operations, the height can be greatly increased, with a common range of 10-24m. Some three-dimensional warehouses even have shelf heights of over 30m. This type of shelf relies entirely on automated equipment to store and retrieve goods, and can utilize the vertical space of the warehouse, making it suitable for large-scale, high turnover warehousing centers such as cold chain warehouses and fast-moving consumer goods warehouses.
3. Low rise heavy-duty shelves
For super heavy goods such as heavy equipment, molds, and steel, the height of the shelves will be appropriately reduced, generally to 2-5m, with 1-3 layers. Lowering the height can improve the overall stability of the shelf, avoid the risk of overturning due to a high center of gravity, and adapt to scenarios such as heavy machinery factories and steel markets.
4. Core factors affecting height design
Warehouse clear height: The shelf height should be 0.5-1m lower than the warehouse clear height, with reserved space for fire sprinklers, lighting equipment installation, and ventilation gaps.
Homework equipment: The lifting height of a forklift or stacker determines the maximum pickup height of the shelf. If the lifting height of a forklift is 6m, the height of the top cargo space on the shelf usually does not exceed 5.5m.
Goods attributes: Lightweight and small volume goods can be adapted to high shelves; Heavy and large volume goods require a reduction in shelf height to ensure structural safety.
